⚠️ content warnings. Ororon's backstory includes: child abandonment, attempted child sacrifice, past! suicidal ideation (he thought that would save the world)

history.
- 500 years ago, Natlan was nearly destroyed by the calamitous arrival of the Abyss. they've been at war with this dark entity ever since.
- 20-something years ago, Ororon was found on the side of the road as a baby by a member of the Masters of the Night-Wind, a reclusive tribe of Natlanese shamans.
- they can tell he has an "incomplete" or damaged soul, which is a bad omen + eventually leads to erosion of the mind if left unaddressed.
- at first the tribe tried to sacrifice their complementary defective baby to mend the nation's Abyss-damaged ley lines, but the ritual was a failure, so grand sage priestess Granny Citlali took Ororon in and stabilized his soul with a talisman. then, the whole tribe raised him collectively! like nothing ever happened!
- Ororon thus grew up with his every relationship quietly complicated by unspoken disappointment and guilt, strained gratitude, and the tribe's shared responsibility for his continuing survival. Ororon didn't fully understand the reasons for this until his teens, when he was finally told of the sacrifice attempt and his missed chance to be their savior. after that, he struck out on his own - which is quite unusual for his tribe - as soon as he reached adulthood.
- the tribe still fusses over him like he's a kid, though. (he lets them, because that's what they need for their own mental. lol)
- Ororon spends his time hunting and living off his garden, tracking down wandering souls to send them back into the ley lines, and also obsessing over how to save Natlan.
- Traveler and the Fatui army arrive in Natlan to combat the Abyss, beginning the in-game quest.
- due to his own doubts about the Pyro Archon Mavuika's secretive plan to save Natlan, Ororon teams up with Il Capitano (a major series Big Bad and leader of the Fatui in Natlan) in defiance of the Archon, and with Capitano's help Ororon tries to sacrifice himself to Natlan's ley lines again. this attempt fails when he gets possessed by the ghost of Cap's past subordinate, but! with Cap and the Pyro Archon's combined support, Ororon claws his way back from the Night Kingdom i.e. death, kicks the ghost back out of his body, and becomes a "Chosen Hero of Natlan" in the process.
- now he's stronk and good at fight, and by necessity a part of Mavuika's plan, which was to find all the heroes.
- thanks to Ororon, Capitano agrees to join Mavuika + the Chosen Heroes + Traveler to help win their war against their common enemy, the Abyss.
- Mavuika defeats the Abyss, but now must give up her life to the Night-Lord in exchange for using a sacred power.
- Capitano trades places with Mavuika and dies(?) in a dramatic and self-sacrificial way, preserving Natlan's ley lines forever by merging his immortal life force with the Night-Lord. Ororon is shook because that was kinda HIS idea, but accepts that Cap was finally able to attain peace in this way.
- Natlan lives happily ever(?) after, and now Ororon is wiser, happier, healthier, and selling his vegetables all over Teyvat.

personality.
"Well-behaved (most of the time), honest (generally speaking), quiet, sensible, and always studies hard"... and those qualifiers are there for good reason. :') Ororon's intentions are always good, but his unconventional methods can certainly come off as sudden and stupidly reckless. It isn't that Ororon is incautious! Quite to the contrary, he is a very thoughtful and observant young man, well-read and heedful of his elders' advice to stay wary of strangers, swindlers, and wild beasts. However... once Ororon gets a notion in his head, it's almost impossible to disabuse him of it. Especially if said notion is the thought that he can be of help. At that point, rules and appearances and the word "no" no longer matter to him - he's locked in, even if he's putting himself or his reputation at risk.

What Ororon lacks in common sense/restraint/tact, he makes up for with his strong intuition and spiritual sensitivity. He has a sixth sense for reading other people at the deepest level, i.e. their very souls, an ability he can’t turn off. Thus, Ororon interacts with the world through a lens tinted with this special perception. He doesn't trust easily, but he does trust near instantaneously and completely, whenever he deems it safe to do so – because people can lie, but the soul cannot. When he has reason to feel distrustful or secretive, Ororon responds with either complete silence, or else a polite yet deliberately obfuscating aloofness... if he can be located at all. He’s known to disappear with ease.

Despite those skills and many others, Ororon gives off a sense of naivety, or else an almost childlike innocence and enthusiasm for the world, which compels others to feel protective of him. Ororon is aware of this but doesn't fight at all, acting instead as the gracious, deferential grandchild or younger brother to everyone both in and out of his tribe. Despite Ororon's own insistence that getting along with other people isn't his forte, he has a knack for meeting others with compatible energy, and all without him ever needing to change a thing about himself. For example: to Granny, he is obedient, but endearingly mischievous. To Capitano, Ororon is serious and respectful but firm in his own standing, unafraid to verbally challenge the Captain and quite determined to be heard and accepted into the Fatui's company. To his best bro Ifa, Ororon is casually goofy and teasing in a way that is breezily chaotic; he's a tiny bit selfish in his whims, yet openly playful and affectionate - all of which drives chronic worrywart and overthinker Ifa mad (positive). Ororon vocally prides himself on his ability to adapt unobtrusively to any environment, but little does he know he actually has that skill for people, too.

So who is Ororon under all that unconscious people-pleasing? An adaptable young man with an idealistic faith in the goodness of people, resilient and headstrong, honest and true to himself, with deeply self-sacrificial tendencies and, yes, some ALL-consuming special interests (gardening, honey aphids, Fontainian cinema). Plus a surprising streak of silliness which surfaces easily whenever he's comfortable - sometimes when he's uncomfortable - and which is utterly impervious to the judgment or raised eyebrows of others.

And so, others let him be just the way he is. ...because sure, everyone thinks he's pretty much an incomprehensible weirdo whose bizarre trains of thought are exhausting to follow, but he's good-natured and harmless, and they tend to like him too much to ask him to change. Besides, the vegetables he brings by are super tasty.

abilities.
(Magic) Vision: Electro
He can use electricity magic. It's purple!

(Magic) Night-Wind Spiritual Arts / Nightsoul Blessing
The Masters of the Night-Wind practice a (vaguely defined) magic which relies on the manipulation of spirits to accomplish various tasks which include, but are not limited to: clairvoyance, astral projection, illusion, invisibility, tracking, fortune-telling, healing spiritual afflictions, manipulation of souls, and teleportation. The tribe is also strongly attuned with the Night Kingdom - their understanding of the afterlife - and the Lord of the Night, who oversees that realm. Thus, some communication between realms is possible using their arts. The Nightsoul Blessing is a boon to the Natlanese from the Lord of the Night which blah blah blah Genshin battle mechanics meta anyway he can fly, but only a little.

(Magic/Mundane) Soul synesthesia
He can sense, see, and feel the color, texture, and temperature of other peoples' soul energy at all times, which gives him some insight into that person's personality, intentions, and trustworthiness. This can be nerfed per the preferences of other players, which I explain in my permissions✨. I also hc that the ability works best 1-on-1 and can get overwhelming in groups, and perhaps it's just a little "off" in-game in case someone needs to trick him for plot reasons.

(Mundane) Gardening
He basically taught himself small-scale vegetable farming.

(Magic/Mundane) Archery
Bow and arrow, bow and arrow + electricity. Upon becoming a Chosen Hero, Ororon inherited the skills and relevant memories of his ancient ancestor Sanhaj, a legendary archer. Genshins store their weapons in a kind of personal hammerspace, materializing and de-materializing them as needed.

(Mundane) Self-sufficiency
Ororon seems to have naivety and a silliness about him that causes many - even among is own tribe - to underestimate his capabilities, but he is actually quite independent: he built his own dwelling, he hunts and lives off his garden, and he is a talented herbalist, shaman, and explorer. Capitano recognizes how capable Ororon is and relies on him as a guide for his army while in Natlan.
